Welcome to Wellesley Widows.com

The Wellesley Widows are a thirteen-voice a cappella singing group. We have been singing together for over fifty years, making us one of the nation's oldest women's collegiate a cappella singing ensembles. We first performed as "flappers" for a father-daughter weekend back in 1949. Originally called the "College Octet," the Widows borrowed the song "Mimi the College Widow" from the Yale Whiffenpoofs, changing the lyrics to "We are the College Widows," and the name stuck. Today we have a wide repertoire, specializing in popular music from the 1930s to the present, including modern songs by Duran Duran, Shakira and Bon Jovi. We are proud to carry on a tradition of fine musical entertainment to audiences all over the United States as: The Wellesley Widows - Dressed to Kill since 1949.

Widows Open For Rachael Yamagata!

Another fabulous chance to perform with one of the original artists of a song in our repertoire! This time it was Rachael Yamagata, singer/songwriter of our track, “I Want You,” currently available on our new album, “Unwed”. The Widows had a lot of fun meeting Rachael, admiring her black outfit that evening, and making her an honorary member. She even got a copy of the CD and looooooves our arrangement of “I Want You”!!! Mad props!!

"UNWED" NOMINATION!!

The Widows have been nominated for a 2008 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award! Both our album, "Unwed", and a song on it, "Who Makes You Feel" (Original artist: Dido) are nominated!

Blasting Through Philadelphia

This November, the Wids took a mini-tour to Philadelphia.  We performed at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Jenkintown, PA and also took some time to visit our wonderful friends, the Haverford S-Chords.  We even sang with them on the street corners of downtown Haverford in a square that was already decorated for the holidays.  And, of course, there was an important WAWA stop on the ride home.  Many thanks to our Philadelphia Mom for her warm hospitality and wonderful cooking!!  Check out our pictures to see how much fun we had!

Widows Perform for Hillary Clinton

On October 10th, the Widows were invited to perform at a rally for Wellesley alum and Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton '69. They sang for over 2500 people at the Boston Symphony Hall and had a blast meeting the Senator and seeing the Goo Goo Dolls!
